Objectified
Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 2:16PM Did you ever see the documentary Helevetica? Probably not. It's a film by director Gary Hustwit an entire design style and movement being born from one font (Helvetica). It's pretty good. Check it out if you're into graphic design. Anyway, Mr. Hustwit has a new documentary coming out called Objectified. I've been hearing about it for some time and it sounds pretty interesting. The film is mainly based around interviews with people who design the stuff we use every day and never stop to think about the fact that someone actually had the idea to make it look the way it does. Some one worked very hard to try to strike the perfect balance between form and funtion in the lamp next to your bed, or the gear shift in your car (or bike;-). Hustwit interviews numberous big names in the industrial design industry, although the interview I'm most interested in seeing is with Jonathon Ive, Apple's Cheif Designer. He's the guy responsible for designing Apple's Macbook line of computers, as well as other products of theirs. Here's the trailer for the film:
And what's cool is that there will be a screening of the film in Portland at Cinema 21 on June 9th. And even cooler is that Gary Hustwit will be there for a post-film discussion. Here's the info about the screening. Go see the film and let me know what you think, because I'll be out of town then ;-)
